Another superhero movie ! Animated film or not, this is what you think when you see the title of this film : Big Hero 6. So you wonder what this animated film could bring in addition to all the other superhero films . Well the thing it brings to the table is that it is different. Let me explain that!
There are superheroes who have nothing conventional. There are no characters coming from another planet, no genetic or chemical transformation to name a few, but simply a man’s creation that doesn’t go wrong for once. Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, “Big Hero 6” works thanks to its originality. The first hero, Baymax, is not there to save the world from a grave danger (even if the threat is there), but it was created by a young student, Tadashi, to ensure its “patient.”’s health. With its giant height and its rounded body, Baymax is a warm and attractive robot.
Its corpulence is made so as to take care of people. When Tadashi dies and leaves his little brother Hiro alone, Baymax manages to do it, at a robot scale. It heals physical but also psychological and emotional pains, such as loss of a loved one. This robot, that is nothing other than a machine, manages to show compassion. The thing is that superhero movies have a bit, or even a big lack of humanity in their plot. There will of course, always be a bit of romance to attract a lot of audience in theaters. Humanity is in the heart of this animated film.
Firstly, by the end of human nature but also the fallibility of human beings who become heroes. They are not invincible, they don’t have superhuman strength, they control the objects and machines that they themselves created to fight the great threat in San Fransokyo (kind of a fusion of San Francisco and Tokyo). The strength of these new heroes, which eventually can be anyone – if you are really a high technology and robotics geek and if you are especially gifted in this subject – is the courage that drives Hiro and his companions as GoGo who likes adrenaline, Wasabi the control freak, Honey a gifted chemistry student and Fred a fan of everything.
The film has a very good resolution, which is not a surprise when you know that the film was made by “Frozen” and “Tangled”’s creators along with more than a hundred people. The 3D doesn’t bring anything substantial & you could easily do without it. It will be impossible for you not to like these new heroes with a big heart.
