The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie from Phil Lord and Chris Miller
February 25, 2014 Priscilla Ruffe

The first time I saw the trailer for this film I wondered what happened with the producers when they had this crazy idea. And when I watched the movie, I was speechless. This film is a big joke (in a good way).

Here’s the story: Emmet (Chris Pratt), an ordinary character in a world where order rules, becomes by accident the “Special” whose purpose is to save the universe. It will be helped by Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and Batman (Chris Arnett) to destroy Lord Business (Will Ferrell) who threatens the world with the Kragle (which proves to be glue). It easy to say that the storytelling remains basic and we could draw a parallel with The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter (with the appearance of Gandalf and Dumbledore) An ordinary character (Emmet, Frodo, Harry) discovers to be a special one and thanks to a wise man (Vitruvius, Gandalf, Dumbledore) and his friends (Wyldstyle and Batman/ Sam, Merrin and Pippin/ Ron and Hermione) they go and fight against the villain (Lord Business/ Sauron/ Lord Vodelmort).

But the fact that there are other characters such as Superman (Channing Tatum) who cannot stand Green Lantern (Jonah Hill), Wonder Woman or a dedicated scene to Star Wars, brings an original style (even though Star Wars has the same storytelling as the ones told above). I also really liked Bad Cop doubled by Liam Neeson. Nevertheless, the music is quite unnoticed except during the love scene and the revelation of character and it sounds a cliché. But once again, it works because the main objective of this film is humour and to parody movies!

I am not a Geek Lego, but it is impossible to get bored by watching it. But Lego is not only a fantastic story. It hides in reality…

To watch without taking things seriously then and have a great laugh!
