Let’s see what is a road trip/movie with Colin Firth an Emily blunt, directed by Dante Ariola.

Arthur Newman is the story about Wallace Avery (Colin Firth) who decides to give up everything to start new elsewhere. On the road to his new identity, he meets Michaela Fitzgerald as Mike (Emily Blunt), a sassy young girl. Since, Arthur and Mike are two opposite characters; they would have never met with their true identity. But thanks to their different behaviors, they save each other by questioning their lives they both try to flee from.

This is a romantic road movie dealing with a lost identity quest but not a current identity flight. The film starts with this identity change, which quickly catches the audience attention. But, it, unfortunately, does not last for long.

Starring two actors with good performances but far to be one of their best, plus the slowness you endure 90 minutes long, all these drawbacks prevent you from living the story and getting empathy for the characters. The only scene which is quite “punchy» does not last more than five minutes. Then, unfortunately, you go back to a usual and ceaseless slowness.

The director Dante Ariola tried to give some rhythm to the film by telling two parallel stories – the Arthur Newman’s one and the 13-year-old Wallace Avery’s son’s one who looks for his father and tries to understand why he left. But once again, those characters are neither fascinating enough.

To conclude, Arthur Newman is a simple and realistic film, which is easy to watch, but slightly boring sometimes.
