Another Spider-man really? !. Why producing a new Spider-man when there are already five films and the last two were considered a failure. The answer is simple: The Avengers! And the crazy Marvel schedule for many years to come. Here, you discover a new human spider: (much) younger, more mischievous, more troubled and more talkative than previous versions.
Spider-man is my favourite Marvel hero, I was eager but afraid of seeing this new movie, but I liked it. I am not so interested in the whole Marvel universe but I like this new version of Spider-man played by Tom Holland (another British actor for an American superhero). The story takes place two months after the battle between Iron Man and Captain America in Captain America Civil War.
What’s nice is that Peter Parker doesn’t reject his human spider condition. He likes to be Spider-man and he waits for one thing: being an Avenger and fight crimes, which can create catastrophes that Tony Stark has to fix.
Another nice point is that he doesn’t have to hide his identity from his own friends – one only friend in this case – Ned Leeds who quickly discovers Peter’s dual identity.
There is no Harry Osborn in this version, nor Mary Jane Watson, even if there is MJ (Michelle Jones) who doesn’t appear a lot on screen but who still get noticed (Zendaya). Aunt May is also much younger and men are particularly interested in her. This is usual when we use Sam Raimi’s Aunt May as a reference. But the thing that strikes my attention the most is the ethnic diversity of all the characters. I don’t know whether it was voluntary or not, but it was something very nice to see. It was more realistic with our current society. You also can see the villain Vulture, very well played by Michael Keaton, who is married to a black woman and have an interracial daughter, a twist of fate and for comedy purposes, Peter is in love with.
Since you don’t see Peter was bitten, you quickly get in the heart of the story.
Spider-man: Homecoming is a cool move and a good sign for the other upcoming ones of the franchise.
